About the movie Cop

The 1987 drama “The Cop,” directed by James B. Harris, plunges the viewer into the dark atmosphere of a criminal investigation, where every new detail only thickens the fog over the truth. This film is not just a detective story; it's a study of human nature on the brink of morality, where order clashes with chaos, and innocence might just be a mask.

Plot

The story's beginning is deceptively simple: an anonymous message about a horrific murder arrives at the police station. Experienced police officer Lloyd goes to the indicated address and discovers a gruesome scene – the brutally disfigured body of a young woman. This is no ordinary case, and the investigation quickly takes an unexpected turn. A trail of clues leads Lloyd to Kathleen, a feminist who, seemingly, has absolutely no connection to the crime's brutality. However, on the day of the tragedy, she begins to receive mysterious flowers and poems from an unknown admirer, which immediately places her under suspicion or, at the very least, makes her a key figure in this sinister puzzle. Who is this admirer? What is his connection to the murder? And what is Kathleen herself hiding?

Why Watch It

  • Intense Detective Intrigue: The film captivates with its mystery from the first minutes, offering a non-linear investigation full of unexpected twists and false leads.
  • Psychological Depth: The central storyline with Kathleen and her mysterious admirer adds psychological complexity to the plot, turning the detective story into an exploration of motives and hidden desires.
  • Directed by James B. Harris: Known for his contribution to genre cinema, James B. Harris promises to create an atmosphere of tension and unpredictability.
  • Strong Cast: The participation of actors such as Matt Almond, Lyle Howery, John Petivick, and Randy Brooks guarantees a convincing portrayal of complex characters on screen.
  • 80s Atmosphere: The film transports you to the era of classic crime dramas, offering a unique look at investigations of that time.

Themes

“The Cop” explores themes of deception and true identity. The central question becomes how much a person's outward appearance corresponds to their inner essence. The film addresses the problem of justice and how far people are willing to go in its pursuit, as well as the fragility of human life encountering indiscriminate cruelty. Through the figure of Kathleen, the film can also touch upon issues of prejudice and perception, where a person's personal beliefs and life stance might be mistakenly linked to a crime.

Editor's Opinion

“The Cop” is the type of drama that grabs you with its unpredictability and attention to detail. If you're looking not just for a crime story, but a deep dive into human psychology, where motives are not always obvious, and every character holds their secrets, then this film definitely deserves your attention. It promises to keep you in suspense until the very end, making you doubt every fact and every character.
